- 2205 kg, 673 HP, 4WD
- 680 km WLTP (range according to the European test cycle)
- Price (in China): $42 / €000
The Xiaomi SU7 is a sporty, battery-powered sedan with traditional proportions. Although the design may seem suspiciously familiar at first glance and evoke a resemblance to Porsche, the Xiaomi SU7 goes its own way in several ways, but more on that in the following lines.
Refined interior and good view
When the Xiaomi SU7 is "started up", the instrument panel display lights up and flips out. The steering wheel is visually and tactilely very similar to the steering wheel v Porsche. The similarity of not only the steering wheel does not have to be perceived completely negatively. Thanks to Xiaomi's lower price, you can own a "cheap" Porsche.
Thanks to the low front part and thin A-pillar, it is possible to see right in front of the hood from the cabin of the electric car. Forward view, i.e. how well the driver can see the road in front of the car, reminds the YouTuber sports cars with the engine located in the middle, which have a low position of the driver's seat and wide fenders. The driver then feels that he is in the "center of the action" and, among other things, this also results in better handling.
Infotainment is what sets the SU7 apart from other EVs
The interior of the SU7 thinks primarily of the driver, which is reflected in the layout of the controls and intuitiveness infotainment system. The latter looks insanely good in reality, even by the standards of the Chinese market, which already has very strong software players on the market.
The system is not only "CarPlay on steroids", but thanks to real-time smartphone screen mirroring on the main touchscreen with 60 fps offers full integration of the mobile phone with the vehicle system. This means that the user can use their applications as comfortably as if they were holding a phone in their hand.
Tablet holders are just the tip of the iceberg. They are not just passive accessories, they are fully integrated into the vehicle system. They also allow rear passengers to control various vehicle functions, such as air conditioning, multimedia content or even navigation.
All you have to do is attach a tablet to them, and with the SU7 you have an interior (almost) like that of the S-Class. As we announced in our article about introduction of Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi also integrates the connection with the application into its models iPads. Just download the app from the App Store and the iPad will be fully integrated into the car's system. In addition to iPads, tablets from Xiaomi are also supported, of course, namely the latest Pad 6S Pro.
The SU7 boasts a lot physical controls, which is a real rarity in the current trend towards touchscreens. Thanks magnetic system you can customize the interior exactly according to your wishes. This opens the door for attaching accessories such as a smartphone holder or others.
Rear seats
Looking into the rear of the Xiaomi SU7 cabin, it is apparent how modern technology and design can work together to increase passenger comfort. Similar to the front part of the vehicle, the drive for innovation can also be felt in the rear part.
Despite the fact that the SU7 is not presented as a vehicle aimed at the segment of luxury limousines, it offers a surprisingly comfortable space in the back seats that we would expect in larger vehicles. The Youtuber mentions in the review that while rear legroom and headroom aren't top-notch, the SU7 provides sufficient level comfort.
In addition to the rear trunk, a 100-liter trunk
frunk (front trunk), a combination of the English words "front" and "trunk", is the name that Tesla came up with in 2012. Due to the absence of a traditional internal combustion engine in the front of the vehicle, manufacturers can use this space to add additional storage space. Xiaomi SU7 also brings this approach into practice and offers a "frunk" with volume more than 100 liters.
Telescope reviewer mentions in the review that although the shape of this front case may seem non-standard. However, it is large enough to store hand luggage. You will also appreciate it when storing the charging cable. Frunk will especially please those looking for extra space that is not available in traditional cars (and even some EVs).
Impressive driving dynamics
During the test drive, the Youtuber points out that the SU7 offers driving dynamics that could compete with more expensive models on the market, for example even the less distinctive Model 3. Thanks to the electric drive and the low-positioned battery, the SU7 has low center of gravity (similar to other EVs), which improves the vehicle's stability and handling.
This configuration allows the car to handle corners with less body roll and gives the driver more confidence when driving fast. During testing, the driving and handling of a car resembles a YouTuber standard, which is present, for example, at "Audiny". The noise reduction of the interior from the wheels could be better, but when it comes to noise from the outside, Xiaomi has done a good job.
NVIDIA chips and ADAS systems in practice
In one of the most interesting parts of the review, it is pointed out that the vehicle uses two chips NVIDIA Orin. These are the powerful basis for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. They enable the SU7 to implement advanced functions such as predictive management and object recognition with huge computing capacity to process data from multiple sensors in real time.
With SU7, questions arise regarding possible futures software updates, which could further expand its autonomous capabilities. Tests have shown that the system highway cruise control it is usable, but its performance (yet) does not reach the level of more expensive car models.
Is the SU7 a cost-competitive EV?
Xiaomi made a promising entry into the electric vehicle market with the SU7, showing that even a (originally) smartphone maker can bring innovation and quality to the automotive industry. The price of the vehicle varies in conversion from $30 for the basic SU7 model up to $42 for the reviewed version Max. You will find the exact one in a separate article specification of all SU7 models.
Direct conversion of the price to euros can be misleading. A comparison with cars for sale in China and in the EU serves as a useful benchmark. An excellent example can be the aforementioned Tesla Model 3. Its price in China starts at 245 yuan, while in the EU its equivalent price is approximately 900 €, but it is sold a little more expensive.
So what could be the Xiaomi SU7 price range in Europe? To find out, we will have to wait. At least until 2026-2027.
Final evaluation
SU7 is evaluated in the review as surprisingly good and surpassing its price category. The reviewer highlights the fact that despite being the very first car from Xiaomi, originally a smartphone maker, the SU7 is a "normal" car without any significant defects that often come across new car manufacturers.
V connectivity currently deserves the title the best car in the world. In the end, we come to the aforementioned "scandalous" design, which instead of the Xiaomi handwriting is strikingly reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan.
That's a shame, because the features and technology this EV offers will appeal to its customers without copying the design of other flagships. However, we assume that the Chinese designers and engineers know why they did this.
Xiaomi showed its in the automotive industry own ecosystem, which we consider to be the direction Xiaomi will continue to take in automotive.
