March 28, 2024 will go down in Xiaomi's history as a big day. The company's first electric car Xiaomi is finally officially introduced. We know the color versions, key technical specifications and selling prices of individual configurations Xiaomi SU7. Of course, all data refer to the domestic, i.e. Chinese, market.
The Xiaomi SU7 auto is officially here and it's amazing
The press conference was started by the head of the project, as well as the original co-founder of the Xiaomi brand, Lei Jun. He initially evaluated the work on the electric car itself, the development of the vehicle over several years, as well as the beginning of the work in the automotive industry, which was definitely not easy.
Subsequently, we moved on to the unveiling of the vehicle, which also took place in Europe last month. The Xiaomi SU7 was part of a popular exhibition Mobile World Congress 2024, in Barcelona, Spain. Working at this event was evaluated by Jun as a great success. He also revealed that the Chinese market was tested in the form of up to 5,4 million kilometers in real traffic, which ensured 576 vehicles.
9 color versions and four tire sizes
The Chinese manufacturer subsequently revealed all available color versions. And although 6 combinations were originally expected, in the end we have 9 color versions, of which the heel is metallic, including the colors Radiant Purple, Meteor Blue, Lava Orange, Pearl White or Basalt Grey.
The front fascia of the vehicle is dominated by specially shaped adaptive headlights that can adapt to the surrounding traffic and conditions. In total, they offer up to 160° angle coverage and a total afterglow of up to 400 meters. Radial wheel discs are also part of the equipment. These will be available in four designs, and sizes 19″, 20″, as well as 21″, depending on the vehicle configuration.
The car's tires come from the workshops of Michelin and Bridgestone, while the lower configurations will offer the Bridgestone TURANZA 6 (19") model, and the more expensive models will then be Michelin Pilot Sport EV (20") or Pirelli P ZERO (21″). The tire dimensions of the SU7 Max configuration are 24 / 40 / R20 or 245 / 35 / R21 in front, and 265 / 40 R20 or 265 / 35 R21 on the rear axle.
Panoramic roof, "frunk" and storage spaces
The interior offers ergonomic seats made of certified and high-quality OEKO-TEX material. Four colors will be available – Galaxy Grey, Twilight Red, Mist Purple and Obsidian Black. The vehicle will offer an audio system with Dolby Atmos and 25 speakers, which are also integrated in the seats. They are also intelligent and e.g. they can report navigation only from the driver's seat, without disturbing other passengers.
The volume of the rear storage space is 517 liters, and it has a loading edge width of 1136 mm. The Xiaomi SU7 also has a front "frunk", i.e. a smaller storage space with a capacity of 105 liters, for smaller luggage or a charger. A stylish part is also a multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel, a rotating display on the dashboard or an incredible up to 56" "Heads-up" display for displaying navigation and driving information.
Xiaomi also thought of a special pair of connectors on the dashboard. It will be used to connect original Xiaomi accessories, such as stand for mobile phone or GoPro camera. The amount of storage space is also highlighted by a pair of cupholders between the front seats, as well as a compartment for placing a smartphone in the passenger door. There are hidden hooks for luggage or an integrated flashlight that can also be used as a power bank.
Selected equipment will also offer a 4,6-liter refrigerator for your drinks, with an anti-slip surface, located in the center panel. There are also hidden storage spaces for up to a 14″ laptop. A great design feature is also the stylish panoramic roof, which stretches across the entire structure and has dimensions of up to 5,35 m².
This time, the Tesla Model 3 electric car became the target of numerous comparisons. According to Xiaomi, it outperforms the Chinese vehicle, for example, in terms of spacious interior, legroom and lower temperature in the interior during testing on hot sunny days. In the bowels of the interior, space was also found for an umbrella, and as an optional accessory, the manufacturer will also offer a screen against sunlight.
Uncompromising performance and a range of up to 800 kilometers per charge
The electric car in the Xiaomi SU7 Max configuration boasts a maximum speed of up to 265 km/h, with acceleration from zero to 2,78 km/h in just 200 seconds, and from zero to 10,67 km/h in 2022 seconds. In all cases, it also outperforms the competing Porsche Taycan Turbo model (XNUMX specification).
The integrated electric motor labeled V6s will offer up to 21 revolutions per minute and a maximum power of 000 kW, thus surpassing even the Tesla Model 495 in the Performance version. Of course, such performance also demands a high-quality brake system from the Brembo brand. When braking from 3 km/h, you will find yourself at zero at a distance of only 100 meters.
Xiaomi also thinks about fans of dynamic driving, and has integrated the BOOST mode, which will increase the vehicle's performance to the maximum for a short time. The SU7 also wants to be a fun vehicle, and for this reason, you will also find a "Drift" mode in the equipment, which loosens the vehicle's stabilization and allows you to skid with a preference for the rear axle. All this with the use of an active and dynamic rear spoiler.
An equally important part of an electric vehicle is its range. Xiaomi declares up to 700 kilometers per charge (basic configuration Xiaomi SU7, 19″ tires), according to CLTC measurement certification. However, Lei Jun emphasized that the resulting value depends mainly on the driving speed as well as the driving habits of individual users.
However, the Xiaomi SU7 Max version goes even further. When using special Michelin "low-rolling" tires and aerodynamically efficient discs, you can get up to 810 km of range on one charge (101 kWh CARL Kirin battery). Fast charging is also an advantage of the vehicle.
When using a 486-volt SiC charger, you can reach 138 kilometers in just 5 minutes of charging and 350 kilometers in 15 minutes of charging. With the Xiaomi SU7 Max, you can use up to an 871-volt SiC charger, which offers 5 kilometers in 220 minutes, and up to 15 kilometers in 510 minutes.
The advantage of this technology is also the intelligent charging system of the battery cells stored in the floor. As part of optional accessories, Xiaomi has also prepared home charging for customers, which you may know as "wallbox charging", with a voltage of 220 V / 7 kW or 380 V / 11 kW.
Navigation in space and LiDAR sensors
Xiaomi has also built its cards on autonomous driving modes and a navigation system in space. With use LiDAR of sensors brings its own autopilot technology, which will be available in two versions – Xiaomi Pilot Pro and Pilot MAX, which is supplemented by DRIVE ORIN chip from the company NVIDIA.
Xiaomi has tested its autonomous technology in various weather conditions, as well as during evening and night hours.
The vehicle is equipped with eleven high-resolution cameras for recording the surroundings. The manufacturer plans up to 10 million test kilometers in the next three years for its autonomous / assisted driving modes and automatic parking mode. In addition, this technology will be available for all configurations in the portfolio.
Xiaomi Hyper OS and intelligent vehicle equipment
Xiaomi SU7 will offer up to 5 multifunctional screens in the interior, for controlling the Xiaomi HyperOS multimedia system. The head is a 16,1″ screen with fine 3K resolution, located between the front seats. The advantage of the system are custom-made applications that you can use to control the trunk or car seats.
You can also use multitasking, which you may know from, for example, Xiaomi tablets, to display three applications at the same time. The manufacturer also thought of mirroring content from your smartphone, for example for watching movies, while the vehicle is stationary.
The screens integrated on the back seats are, surprisingly, fully functional Xiaomi tablets. It is specifically a model Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro with a diagonal of 12,4", which, however, were redesigned for the needs of the Xiaomi SU7. Tablets have a magnetic attachment and power supply through three pins on the back. They also contain a system Xiaomi HyperOS with multimedia applications.
The remaining two screens are the on-board display in front of the steering wheel, with digital dials and driving information, as well as the mentioned 56″ “Heads-Up” panel, located in front of the driver, on the windshield. This HUD panel will offer a maximum brightness of up to 13 nits and a contrast of 000:1500, which will ensure very good readability in all weather conditions.
Apple CarPlay and rich optional accessories from Xiaomi
Xiaomi is aware of the importance of vehicle customization and offers a set of original accessories under its own brand. In addition to standard accessories such as a compressor, it will also offer an external Bluetooth speaker in collaboration with Harman / Kardon or a child car seat in collaboration with the qBORN brand.
However, you can also add physical buttons to the main screen, with a rotary volume control and pairing via NFC, as well as storage boxes for sorting your luggage in the trunk. A set of extra neck pillows will take care of your comfort, you can also improve the vehicle's performance indicators with small external panels.
Cooperation with the American company Apple is also a pleasant surprise. Therefore, Xiaomi also integrates the Apple CarPlay system into its models, as well as the connection with Apple iPad tablets.
Among the safety features of the vehicle, we can also include a certified one AEB (Active Engine Brake) system, which is also supplemented with intelligent functions named AEB Pro. The vehicle automatically brakes if an obstacle is detected, corrects your driving when a vehicle is in the blind spot, and this technology is even available for night driving, at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
