The big August Xiaomi conference was not just about the new Mi MIX 4 and tablets. Xiaomi is once again embarking on the wireless speaker segment, where he wants to bring quality sound and some extra features. The new audio product is the Xiaomi Sound speaker.
360-degree sound from Harman / Kardon
The speaker itself has the shape of a higher puck. It will be available in silver and black. The speakers are arranged around its perimeter, offering 360-degree sound. To make the sound as clear and high-quality as possible, Harman / Kardon, which also focused on the speakers in the newly introduced smartphone, took care of its fine-tuning. Xiaomi Mi MIX 4.
Xiaomi Sound can be quite loud, where the manufacturer states a maximum volume of 90 dB. Depending on how compact it is, it can also boil with much larger speakers, mainly due to its compactness, which, however, is not at the expense of the quality and volume of the music played.
It is located inside an elegant construction 2,25-inch full-frequency 12W speaker together with a pair of passive radiators. In addition to sound tuning from the aforementioned Harman / Kardon brand, the speaker is also Hi-Res Audio certified, through which the manufacturer promises lossless sound quality similar to CD quality.
In addition, the new Xiaomi speaker also has Ultra Wide Band technology (similar to Xiaomi Mi MIX 4), WiFi, Harman AudioEFX, Bluetooth in the latest version 5.2 and support for Chinese voice assistant XiaoAI.
In addition, there is a function that allows you to pair up to 8 such speakers, which will play synchronously. This is suitable, for example, for organizing a party or setting up a complete home audio system.
Price and availability
Xiaomi Sound will currently only be available for the domestic Chinese market. But it is very likely that we will see it on sale at international retailers in the coming weeks. The price is set at a nice 499 yuan, which is about 60 EUR.
