Our favorite Chinese tech giant Xiaomi he is busily preparing his own electric car, which will also offer an extraordinary charging innovation compared to the competition. This innovation is not offered even by the giant in the Tesla segment or the electric models of Mercedes.
Xiaomi is working on an innovation in electric car charging
Usually, if you see an electric car charger on the street, the vehicle itself is connected to the stand by a cable. People also buy the same solution for the home in the form of so-called wall box. But what if these cables were no longer needed? That's exactly what he wants to achieve Xiaomi with your own electric car, thanks to a patent for wireless vehicle charging.
However, it would be an alternative that is more interesting than effective. And this despite the fact that technology wireless charging is getting better over the years. However, this is a less efficient solution compared to powering through a cable, and this type of charging is also slower. Xiaomi offers wireless charging with power for mobile phones up to 67 W. But is an improvement also possible for an electric car?
Wireless charging: It already has a patent in China
According to the website of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, a new patent entitled "Wireless charging method, system and data carrier" has been granted, which was applied for by the company. Xiaomi Auto Technology Co., Ltd., and the number of this patent is CN114785002B. Model in preparation xiaomi mi car respectively. MS 11 EV should therefore arrive with this technology either as standard or optional equipment. How does the process itself work? This is how the patent describes it:
"After receiving a charging request message sent by the vehicle to be charged, the charger will determine the target parking space where this wireless charging will take place.
The charger will determine the target induction coil from the set of coils corresponding to the target parking space. The user must place the vehicle-mounted power receiving coil to be charged over the target induction coil to obtain the target position of the power receiving coil.”
“As the target power transmission coil, it is necessary to use any idle power transmission coil located at a preset position and move the target power transmission coil to the target position. In this way, the charging vehicle can be charged wirelessly through the target coil for transmitting electrical energy and the coil for receiving electrical energy.”
No need for a standard charging cable
According to the statements of the company Xiaomi this patent eliminates the need for the driver to constantly change the parking position of the charging vehicle so that the pair of coils for transmitting and receiving electrical energy are perfectly aligned. This reduces the complexity of parking and makes the whole process easier.
Doubts that arise with this type of charging are, for example, how long it will take to charge the car at 100% capacity. However, it is possible to use it for partial charging, for short distances. However, all questions about this functionality can be answered after the introduction of the Xiaomi electric car, in the course of 2024.
