Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi he is really serious about the development of the electric car. This time it invests 500 million yuan in hybrid batteries, which should be part of the law prepared electric car.
Hybrid batteries for electric cars from Xiaomi
In the midst of a semiconductor crisis that has also affected the automotive and technology industries, Xiaomi established cooperation with companies Shunwei Capital a Huawei. Together, they will fund the Xiaomi Electric Vehicle Battery Fund. The supplier is the company Weilan New Energy and the project itself has a budget of up to 5 billion yuan (approximately € 693 million).
As the source ITHome says, Weilan New Energy is a company established in 2016, with production bases in Fangshan (Beijing), Liyang (Jiangsu) and Huzhou (Zhejiang). They are also the only source of technology for the industrial production of semi-solid (hybrid) batteries.
Xiaomi is the main investor in the said cooperation and therefore has an advantage. It will take the lead in the process of supplying individual components.
According to the available information, this is an innovation in the production of standard battery cells. Specifically, it is about production hybrid batteries with solid and liquid electrolyte resp. semi-rigid batteries, with which, for example, the NIO ET7 electric car can offer a range of up to about 1000 kilometers on a single charge.
High density of stored energy and production for next year
This battery uses a solid and liquid electrolyte as a catalyst. It solidifies during electrification and an anode made of anorgatic carbon and silicon is also placed in the battery itself. There is also a nickel cathode with an ultra high nanometer.
At first glance, it may be a little harder to understand what can actually be achieved with this change in battery manufacturing technology. According to Xiaomi, the key is that this new technology can increase density stored electricity up to 50%. So in a battery of the same size it can contain up to 360 Wh / kg.
Hybrid batteries will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2022 and are one of many processes in the ongoing development of the electric vehicle that Xiaomi is preparing for its customers. The finished electric car with hybrid batteries from Xiaomi should be officially introduced in the second half of 2024.
