A popular Chinese company Xiaomi has developed its own technology with artificial intelligence for fully autonomous driving of cars called Xiaomi Pilot Technology. He plans to use this technology in his first model of an autonomous car with an electric drive.
Xiaomi Pilot Technology: New technology with artificial intelligence for fully autonomous driving
A team of more than 500 R&D experts, as well as an investment of 500 million euros in the initial phase, this is the capital that Xiaomi devotes to the creation of its autonomous technology for the movement of cars. Xiaomi believes in equipping its upcoming vehicle with sophisticated algorithms to deal with all scenarios and obstacles.

With technology Xiaomi Pilot Technology the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, is also satisfied. He has confirmed several times that he will fully focus on this ambitious project and that he is also excited about the way it is developing. Due to this fact, the transformation of the company's organizational chart took place at the beginning of this year.
Since Xiaomi entered the EV industry 500 days ago, our autonomous driving team has assembled more than 500 members, planned to invest RMB3.3 billion in the first R&D phase, and committed to self-developing full stack algorithms. Xiaomi is expected to have more than 2022 artificial intelligence experts on staff by the end of 600. These will come from other well-known companies in the sector, covering different stages of development and technical areas. For example, it will be a department dedicated to sensors, programming, implementation of chips, algorithms, simulation, data platform, etc.
Xiaomi can also boast of other numbers. Academically, this ambitious team is led by 50 automotive professionals. And it should be added that more than 70% of the members involved in this project hold a master's or doctoral degree.
The first 140 vehicles with autonomous driving
Currently, many different teams are working on this project. This includes, for example, the XiaoAI AI Assistant team, which is working in parallel to make it possible to control the autonomous car with voice commands. Of course, there is also cooperation with the industry for cameras, optics and the Xiaomi AI Lab, which works closely together and jointly develops the necessary tools for operation.
The first series of smart vehicles, in which the "alpha-version" of Xiaomi Pilot will be installed, will consist of 140 test vehicles. They will face the limits and possible obstacles of this rapidly developing technology. The vehicles will be in operation in China and will travel throughout the country. Similar to the first pair of prototypes, which are currently being tested directly on Chinese streets.
However, we already know that the Xiaomi Pilot Technology project will be much more than a standard ADAS assistant (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Such an assistant usually provides automated functions such as brake control, lane keeping, vehicle steering and others. Dozens of sensors, radars and LIDAR technology are expected to be able to identify risky situations in hundredths of a second.
Electric car equipment from Xiaomi
The batteries for Xiaomi's upcoming electric car will most likely be based on lithium-ion cells. And the pioneering company in the development and production of these cells is Shendong. In order to speed up the production of battery cells, Xiaomi even acquired a 100% stake in Shendong Technology.
This company has also excelled with its emission-free hydrogen-based combustion vehicles and has formed several alliances or agreements with the Chinese government and the Ministry of Science and Technology with the aim of achieving complete carbon neutrality in China by 2060. It is thus a really big player, and this also considering the problems that the Xiaomi brand had with the Chinese government in connection with the necessary licenses.
Even so, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi wants its electric vehicle, powered fully autonomously via Xiaomi Pilot Technology, to be a pioneer and a leading vehicle in terms of artificial intelligence (AI), energy consumption, as well as safety. And safety is the key element that the manufacturer thinks about when talking about an intelligent and autonomous vehicle.
