Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi secured his new patent, which is aimed at the world of mobile photography. He's talking about zooming in at the level of SLR cameras, which can significantly help with the final results.
Variable focal length on a smartphone?
Most leading manufacturers offer software settings of different focal lengths for the best possible results on a smartphone. This usually works very well, but you have to use digital zoom when changing lenses until you reach your preferred focal length. For photography, this is a standard solution. However, with video, it can cause blurring as well as stuttering.
In the past, we could see some kind of experiment connecting a smartphone and a digital compact camera. He was introduced by the company Samsung with label K Zoom a S4 Zoom, which offered a variable focal length lens.
Model Galaxy K Zoom offered a 35mm sensor and 10x optical zoom with an equivalent result to the k 24 - 240 mm lens. This is an excellent result for an eight-year-old device. But it has a catch, which is size.
Samsung did not continue its "Zoom" series of devices, and the main stumbling block was the extreme size of the sensor, which, together with the zoom technology, took up space for the battery.
The company also tried something similar Sony with a smartphone Xperia 1IV, which offers a variable focal length. It has the ability to optically zoom in 3,5-5,2 times. This may seem small, but compared to Samsung, this Japanese manufacturer has an advantage. Xperia has a similar thickness and size to other "standard" smartphones.
Xiaomi cameras and SLR-level zoom
Now the company is also on the move Xiaomi. The new patent reveals that the company will use one larger sensor camera with integrated variable focal length. That means there won't be any ultra-wide or telephoto lenses on the back.
In the image below, you can see the aforementioned primary camera lens, which Xiaomi describes in its new patent. Understandably, there is no further information available about a possible specific device. However, it will probably be another model for fans of mobile photography, as was the case Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which impressed with its up to 1″ sensor.
