Interestingly, this technology is currently only available for OLED displays. We owe this success to a team of skilled people from the research and development department of Redmi.
The beginnings of sensors
With the development of mobile phones came greater and greater demands for a larger display without frames, cutouts or buttons. You will not stop the progress and the manufacturers have had to adapt to the new trend.
The facilities continued to ask for biometric protection. Thus, some manufacturers have placed the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, others, such as Apple, have worked on the biometric face sensor.
The turning point came when it was possible to place a fingerprint sensor directly under the display, specifically OLED displays. This small miracle resulted in a high increase in sales of OLED displays, which, however, was a major blow to the sale of LCD displays.
Evolution for cheaper devices
According to the latest reports from the Chinese social network Weibo, Redmi has succeeded in this technological marvel by using IR radiation through film materials that are highly permeable. This means that the light penetration increased rapidly and this allowed the screen to penetrate. The result is the ability of the fingerprint reader to read fingerprints on the LCD display.
Ultimately, inserting a fingerprint sensor under the LCD display can dramatically increase LCD sales. These displays are typical especially for cheaper devices such as the lower and middle class.
We assume that if everything goes smoothly, even cheaper devices will be able to use this piece of technology, which will certainly please a large number of users of cheaper models. You can see how it all works in the video above.
