trade show Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, unveiled a number of technological innovations, including a new electric car Xiaomi SU7. The brand's first electric car had its premiere on European soil, and our editors couldn't miss it.
Xiaomi SU7: European premiere at MWC 2024 in Barcelona
As Xiaomi announced, Xiaomi SU7 is really present in the exhibition grounds MWC 2024. The Chinese manufacturer decided to demonstrate to European customers the configuration marked "Max" and in the color version "Aqua Blue". This particular configuration is primarily oriented towards performance, but it does not let itself be embarrassed in terms of aesthetics either.
The Xiaomi SU7 Max impresses with its dual electric motor and four-wheel drive. The total electric power is 664 horsepower and the maximum range is up to 800 kilometers according to the manufacturer. You can view detailed photos of the vehicle directly from Barcelona in the gallery below.
Inspiration from the competition? There is no need to be ashamed of the design
Let's start with the front. It is aerodynamically very advantageously shaped, and the inspiration from sports cars cannot be denied. The shaping is reminiscent of the British McLaren. A distinctive element of the front mask is also LED headlights, which are closed and also help in circulating the air around the vehicle.
Another element of equipment that maximizes the range of the battery is the tires. Xiaomi supplies tires for its electric car Michelin Pilot Sport EV (configuration designed for electric cars), namely on 20-inch wheel discs with the Xiaomi logo. This tire is specially designed to improve grip in sporty driving, extend battery life and reduce rolling noise, which is definitely a positive.
If we look carefully under the wheel discs, we will find powerful brakes from the brand's workshop Brembo, with stirrups in a piercing yellow color. These attract a lot of attention, as do the door handles, which are aligned in the door itself and do not protrude from the body of the vehicle.
LiDAR sensor, distinctive headlights and sports elements
In terms of navigation in space, as well as safety, there is no lack of an arsenal of cameras that will be in charge of a 360° view around the vehicle in real time. This system is supplemented by LiDAR sensor, which is located in the upper part of the vehicle. LiDAR at first glance, the technology looks like the air intake on sports cars.
However, the opposite is true and Xiaomi decided to integrate this sensor mainly due to the improvement of space navigation. Its location has to do mainly with the fact that the sensor does not interfere with any other element on the body.
The rear part of the electric car catches the eye with a prominent inscription of the Chinese company. Immediately after turning on the vehicle, however, the impressive headlights with a distinctive light signature across the entire width of the rear fascia catch your eye. In this case, Xiaomi uses a trick that we can also see on models from other brands. Thanks to the rear lights and voluminous wheel arches, the vehicle appears much wider and more powerful.
The more muscular appearance of the electric car is highlighted especially in the rear part. A more sporty aesthetic touch is also given to the vehicle by the retractable rear spoiler, which should also be active, thus helping the vehicle sit more securely on the road. However, it is proof that the SU7 can also be a fun car, especially in rear-wheel drive.
Will the Xiaomi SU7 be available in Europe?
Since we were actually standing next to the car and taking pictures of it, we couldn't help but ask about the availability of the employee at the Xiaomi stand, who was in charge of information about the Xiaomi SU7 car.
We have sad news for European fans – a Xiaomi stand employee confirmed to us that the Xiaomi SU7 electric car will not be sold in Europe yet. We will wait at least 4-5 years for availability in the EU. However, the manufacturer has not completely ruled it out in the future. The worker did not comment on the approximate price at all.
