Where a new advertising poster will appear, thanks to which we already have an idea of what the novelty will look like. When we take a closer look at one of the official posters, we already know that both the upcoming Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro smartphones are displayed on it.
The difference between smartphones is clearly noticeable between the rear second and third camera sensor. The Pro version has something extra there.
But that is not the topic of today's article. We would like to bring you some information about the basic pillars of the equipment that the Xiaomi Mi 10 / Pro will contain. A few days before the performance, we already know that the novelty will come with a processor Snapdragon 865, a new type of RAM L, with storage of type UFS 3.0 also new technology 6 WiFi. Let's now look at what these features mean and what benefits they will bring to users.
Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 865
Already on December 4/2019, when we introduced the new flag processor from the Qualcomm workshop, we learned that just The Mi 10 will be one of the first smartphones in the world, which will be equipped with just this chip.
Now, a few days before the official launch, it looks like it will even be the first smartphone with this processor ever. The new chipset will bring not only support for 5G mobile networks but also incredible performance. We have already provided more detailed information about the specifications of the Snapdragon 865 in a recent article and now we know it's the best foundation for a high-end smartphone.
LPDDR5 RAM
In February 2019, the Solid State Technology Association (JEDEC) issued a low-power standard for LPDDR5 memory. A year later, LPDDR5 memory is finally successfully commercialized. After a state-of-the-art processor, RAM LPDDR5 will also debut in Xiaomi Mi 10. So what does this innovation bring?
First of all, it is a significant increase in transmission speed. Thanks to the multi-bank mode, additional parallel data paths are added to the LPDDR5, which increases data bandwidth and increases performance.
Compared to the previous generation of LPDDR4, the data transfer rate of LPDDR5 is significantly increased. The transfer rate jumped from 3200 Mbps to 5500 Mbps, which is the highest-speed memory specification today.
The most powerful mobile platforms today use LPDDR4x RAM with a maximum data transfer level of 4266 Mbps. The next upgrade of the LPDDR5 module is expected to increase performance by up to 30 percent to up to 6400 Mbps.
The second key feature of LPDDR5 is energy saving. Compared to LPDDR4X, the VDD2 power supply in LPDDR5 is divided into VDD2H and VDD2L. The voltage was reduced from 2 V to 1,1 V for VDD1,05H and from 0,6 V to 0,5 V for VDDQ.
At the same time, newly added functions called DVSFS and DVFSQ dynamically adjust the operating voltage according to the operating frequency and switch VDD2H and VDDQ to lower 0,9V (VDD2L) and 0,3V at low speeds, which is another form of reduced power consumption.
In addition, in the high-speed calculations of the LPDDR4x module, it operates at a frequency of 2 MHz, which must be maintained at all times, which practically increases energy consumption. The innovative WCK write cycle in the LPDDR133 module reduces the frequency when the read or write operation stops, thus saving energy.
Support for 5G mobile networks, larger photo sensors, higher quality photos, high-definition videos and graphics-intensive games and applications directly require high-speed data transfers. LPDDR5 is not only a desirable standard of the new flagship Xiaomi Mi 10, but will soon become the standard of the time.
UFS 3.0 storage
The entire Mi 10 series comes standard with "UFS 3.0 flash memory". UFS 3.0 is the latest generation and currently the fastest flash memory. It doubles the speed of the previous generation of UFS 2.1, but reduces power consumption, which meets the basic needs of high-end smartphones in the 5G era.
Data processing inside a mobile phone is actually a transfer process. It's like transporting goods. If you use a rocket for transport in the first part of the road, using a hand truck in the second part would completely nullify the advantage of fast transport.
The Mi 10 series is equipped with UFS 3.0 flash memory, which corresponds to the performance of Snapdragon 865 and LPDDR5 RAM. The UFS 3.0 interface achieves data transfer speeds of up to 2900 MB / s, which doubled performance compared to 1 MB / s for UFS 450.
Xiaomi Mi 10, equipped with UFS 3.0 as standard, also supports write enhancement technology Write Turbowhich provides a stable high speed write speed. The fastest sequential write speed can reach up to 730 MB / s.
It is clear from the measured data that the Xiaomi Mi 10 equipped with UFS 3.0 flash memory has a significant increase in read and write performance compared to the previous Xiaomi Mi 9 model.
The sequential read speed is twice as high as the Xiaomi 9 and the sequential write speed is up to 3,9 times faster than its predecessor. The speed of random reading and random writing is 1,7 times higher than with Mi 9.
In a test of copying a compressed file of 11,17 GB on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, a time of 23 seconds was achieved and the overall speed was essentially kept stable at 500 MB / s. For the Mi 9, it took about 60 seconds and the speed ranged between 145 MB / s to 335 MB / s.
In addition to the difference in interface speed, there is also a difference in energy savings. The VCC supply for the flash memory particles was reduced from 2,9 V to 2,5 V, and the VCCQ supply for the main control was directly reduced from 1,8 V to 1,2 V.
The test results show that the power consumption per GB / s of UFS 3.0 sequential reading is 60% lower than UFS 2.1 and the power consumption per GB / s of sequential writing is 48% lower than UFS 2.1.
New WiFi wireless technology 6
The 802.11 standards published in IEEE can be divided into six generations. The latest network 802.11ax is called 6 WiFi and the maximum transfer rate can reach 9,6 Gbps. It is 2,7 times WiFi 5 - 802.11ac network launched in 2012 and 16 times WiFi 4 - 802.11n introduced in 2009.
Like new RAM or storage technology, the sixth generation of WiFi can save energy. integrated TWT technology corrects the device to sleep mode when communication is not needed, which significantly contributes to energy savings.
At the same time, TWT guarantees that the device is always on standby and that the user does not miss the received email or important message, despite saving energy.
Thanks to new technologies 8 × 8 MU-MIMO and OFDMA are smartphones or other devices with WiFi 6 able to achieve effective acceleration even in congested areas with public access such as airports, shopping malls and the like.
Xiaomi Mi 10 will be a premium smartphone
As you can see, the manufacturer Xiaomi integrates the best equipment elements of today into his new flagship. You may find some components oversized and unnecessary, and you get the impression that they will make the whole smartphone unnecessarily expensive.
We tried to point out that only a powerful processor would not reach the average performance limit without high-performance RAM and a new type of storage.
When the developers wanted to equip the smartphone with an above-standard camera system with above-average functions, other high-performance and top equipment had to be integrated into the device. Without it, using the individual functions of a smartphone would become a tragedy rather than a pleasure.
Of course, we are pleased with these innovations, as well as the fact that the new flagship from Xiaomi will set the bar for equipment from other manufacturers this year.
