One of the biggest reasons for the increase, mentioned by a Xiaomi representative, is the move from the Snapdragon 855 chipset (with 4G support) to Snapdragon 865 and 5G. In fact, it costs a new chipset and a 5G modem doubled the cost compared to the last Snapdragon 855.
In the media, too Lei Jun as CEO of Xiaomi, said that the aforementioned Snapdragon 865 and 5G support add up to $ 70 in addition to the final price of the smartphone. And this is already a relatively significant item.
As also stated Lu Weibing, brand director Redmi, another major reason for the price increase was the switch to a double-curved a 90 Hz OLED screen. In addition, it includes a shot in the display with a front camera, the price is reportedly double compared to the screen of the Mi 9 model.
The display itself is extra one of the most expensive components of the whole smartphone.
RAM also saw a 20% increase in costs. This is a consequence of using the latest generation of memory type L instead of the older type LPDDR4. Finally, the addition of additional cameras, a 108 MPx sensor, dual OIS or a larger battery, faster charging, cooling and design costs also contributed to the significantly more expensive price of the flagship Mi 10.
Xiaomi wanted to create a true premium smartphone without compromising on price. In addition, with a price of up to 550 € it can compete, for example, with the latest Galaxy S20, which costs €899 in the basic version. The Mi 10 will be an extremely competitive smartphone in 2020, with which Xiaomi will once again prove its excellent pricing policy.
