Chinese technology giant Xiaomi introduced the fourteenth generation of the graphics superstructure MIUI. In this article, we will introduce you to the news within the version MIUI 14, that is, the functions that in the older version MIUI 13 you won't find.
MIUI 14: These are the new features of the new update
Testing of new features was published by the website miuipolska.pl, whose owner, Kacper Skrzypek, is involved in the development of the Xiaomi.EU alternative ROM. Testing took place on a smartphone Xiaomi 12, while the new version of the MIUI system has a label V14.0.22.12.5.DEV and the original build on that device has a label V13.1.22.10.25.DEV.
Display of lock screen and home screen after update
The very first of the novelties is the display of the lock screen and the home screen. Of course, there is a new series of wallpapers, but more importantly, the icons, their size, number and distribution, as well as the new folder format, have undergone a change.
System changes in MIUI 14
Changes at the system level also apply to the mentioned icons or folders. In addition to classic folders, you can also choose an oversized super icon or super folder, which will offer larger dimensions and the possibility of opening a specific application directly from the screen. You have a choice one of the four grids of such an icon: 1×1 (this is the default), 2×1, 1×2 and 2×2.
Notification panel and shortcut center
Those who were hoping for changes in this area of the system miscalculated a bit. The notification panel as well as the Shortcuts Center look the same as in the previous generation of the graphic superstructure labeled MIUI 13.
Smartphone settings
As already mentioned above, the new features in the Settings application are primarily changed icons characterizing the respective menu. The search results have also been revised. To means that by searching e.g. of the phrase "Wi-Fi" you will get results grouped according to the categories assigned to them by the MIUI developers.
Phone, SMS and Contacts
These apps are no longer directly provided by Xiaomi in the global ROM version. Applications for making calls, sending SMS/chat messages, as well as for managing your contacts have already replaced alternatives from Google.
Gallery
The camera still has the original interface known from the previous generation, and the Gallery, although it has undergone several updates, still works basically the same as in MIUI 13. In the changelog, Xiaomi highlighted that you can now read from photos using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and this option actually works, even if it doesn't support e.g. Polish characters.
Notes
The popular application for Notes from Xiaomi has been enriched with new widgets for creating new notes, shortcuts to the most important functions of the application, as well as creating tasks. This is what it looks like in the pictures below:
Files
The built-in file browsing application remains unchanged. However, users who haven't updated their beta for a long time may notice the Mi Drive tab that was only introduced in recent releases, as well as cosmetic changes to the app's appearance.
Control panel and security
If it works, we won't change it. This is the password that the Chinese manufacturer also followed in the control panel in the MIUI 14 system. The only novelty compared to the previous generation is the added offer to improve user privacy by collecting and analyzing data without the participation of the company's servers.
Themes and customization
The main change in the Themes app related to the MIUI 14 update is the added support for Super Icons, which you can download or buy with Mi Credits. There are also some new wallpapers, grouped under the MIUI 14, Curves and Jelly categories.
System updates
If we look at other system applications, such as Calendar, Weather, Mi Video or Music, the changes are minimal, in terms of graphical interface processing. Some of them have been updated separately in the past and vice versa, some are not available in the same view as the Chinese version of MIUI ROM.
Availability for Xiaomi smartphones
Updating the graphics superstructure MIUI 14 (in beta version) it will also include an update to Android 13. All smartphones supported so far in the beta program will receive it, except for one of them - Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE.
Xiaomi announced the release of the Chinese version China Stable for the first phase of the facilities in January 2023. The first devices to receive the update include:

- Xiaomi 12 / Pro / Pro (MediaTek),
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 2,
- Redmi K50 / K50G (POCO F4 GT) / K50 Ultra (Xiaomi 12T Pro) / K50 Pro
