At its final conference for 2022, Xiaomi presented, among other things, a new version of its superstructure on top of Android, MIUI 14. It comes together with the new flagship models Xiaomi 13 a Xiaomi 13 Pro. Let's see together what news it brings.
New modern design
The MIUI environment brings a changed and renewed design every year with its new version. This is not the case either, so we can look forward to some visual changes.
In addition to the new logo, we could already see the new design of some system applications such as the recorder, compass, calculator or clock during the beta phase. The control center or notification panel has also changed.
Goodbye bloatware
Many of you, like us, don't like the plethora of pre-installed third-party apps that most of us never use. This time, Xiaomi listened to the voice of its customers and in the new environment is reducing the number of pre-installed applications.
Another great news is that we will also be able to uninstall some system apps that currently MIUI 13 does not allow to remove. That leaves us with only 8 applications that cannot be uninstalled: Contacts, Camera, Settings, Files, Browser, Phone, Messages and GetApps (since this is currently the Chinese version of MIUI).
Maximum customization options
Xiaomi also paid special attention to system customization options. The user can thus customize not only the appearance of the environment, but also various widgets or applications.
A new mode will also be added to the system, the so-called Lite mode, which simplifies the environment and enlarges the icons. It will be ideal especially for the older generation of users who do not use many applications and want to have everything on one screen.
Improved gallery
The image browsing gallery has also received new and very interesting improvements. It will offer a great text detection function with the subsequent possibility of copying it directly from the image. For example, the Google Pixel 6 with Android version 13 has this function.
Another novelty in the gallery will remind you of older photos, similar to what Facebook does, for example, when it reminds you of a photo from the current day several years ago.
Speed and safety in the first place
Of course, the priority of the new MIUI 14 environment is not design changes, but the improvement of performance, stability and security. According to the manufacturer, MIUI will be up to 60% faster in the new version. As an example, he gives the Xiaomi 12s Ultra, which should be up to 60% faster with the new system and superstructure.
The disk space required for MIUI 14 will also be reduced. The internet memory should therefore take up significantly less space compared to the older version. Battery consumption by applications should also be reduced by up to 22%.
In the field of security, the detection of potential risks, fraud through calls, messages or applications is improved. Xiaomi also emphasizes security in the form of processing sensitive data, which it tries to process locally without transferring it to servers if it is not necessary.
Android 13 and supported devices
The new MIUI 14 is also closely related to the new version of Android 13, on which it was based. Nevertheless, some smartphones that are still running on Android 12 will also receive an update to the new version of MIUI. However, you will only enjoy the full potential of the environment with the upcoming Android update.
The models below will get the MIUI 14 update first, with the update rolling out in January 2023:
The list of devices will of course expand over time. It is still not officially known when we will see the new superstructure in Europe. It is estimated that it could arrive in the first quarter of 2023.
