Spoločnosť Google decided to create its own version of the popular feature AirDrop, but this time for users of Android smartphones and Windows devices. In the Slovak translation it is called "Sharing nearby".

Popular wireless file transfer feature for Apple the device has a label AirDrop. And with a single click, it allows you to communicate between the Apple devices present. In the world of Android and PC with Windows, similar functionality exists only in very limited cases (e.g. smartphone and laptop of the same brand, with a limited selection of models).
However, with different brands, users usually shared their files via Gmail or WhatsApp. These files were subsequently accessible in the respective applications and on other devices. Individual buttons for moving files or photos are available in the application for Windows. As well as directly in the Android system. We tried sharing a photo from the device Xiaomi 11t (Android 13, MIUI 14) on Lenovo ThinkPad T15 Gen2 equipped with the Windows 11 operating system (64 bit).
The photo transferred to us in a few seconds after allowing uploading and was saved to our downloads folder. You can also move files the other way around, i.e. from your laptop to a smartphone with the Android operating system. In that case, you place the file in the window of the Nearby Share application on the Windows device and start the transfer.
Beta version is available for now
However, it is necessary to think that this application is still available in its Beta version. And so in some cases the transfer may fail and it is necessary to repeat this attempt. Likewise, the application is not available in all markets, but its distribution is gradually expanding, including in Slovakia.
